How to execute a selected statement?

Selected for Verification...need a tax return transcript but did not file income taxes?

  • I recently found out that I was selected for financial aid verification and need to provide my school with a tax return transcript or a statement saying that I did not need to file income taxes, in order to be eligible for aid. Based on criteria from the IRS (website) I do not need to file my income taxes but I was wondering if anyone knows where or from who I may request some type of statement saying I do not need to file, so that my school can lift this requirement. I have already spoken to my financial aid department and they gave me two options 1. File taxes and then request tax return transcript which could possibly take (6-8 weeks) 2. Request a statement stating I do not need to file but did not direct me to a place that I can request/ receive this type of documentation

every major city in the US has an IRS office. Just google it to find out where yours is. THey will be able to provide you with a statement saying you were not required to file an income tax return (if you truly weren't). Be aware the income requred to file a tax return is VERY low, so you may still be required to file even if you didn't earn much. If you weren't, the IRS office will be able to print a statement out for you that says you were not required to file. simple as that.

just not that

We had verification too and they asked for parent and daughter tax forms on the front sheet. There was also a form that asked if she needed to file and we marked no. We used the IRS data tool to transfer parent tax info to the school. She had her fin aid check every thing and they said that was correct.
