What college should I go to, University of Washington or Washington State University?

  • I got accepted to those two colleges and I want to know which one would be a better choice. I plan to major in mechanical engineering, and make the most out of my college life. I like both of the schools but the choice is tough to make. This is because I would have pick U of Washington in the beginning since it is a better school but I was given the Cougar Academic Award Scholarship ($9,000 renewable) from Washington State university. Times are tough now days to make a choice because I want to make a smart choice for my future and financially as well. My teacher says I should not pass up a scholarship and that it is all about experience and qualification after college that matters. U of Washington is a higher class school but Washington State is a better value. I dont know what to pick. Help me decide!

Congratulations! More students should have your problem. This choice is really up to you. You have laid out the choice quite clearly: UW is a more prestigious school but WSU will save you a ton of money. Under the circumstances I'd vote for WSU, but an equally good case could be made for UW.
