Medical assistant? what to do after?

Your major will reflect what you wish to do. However, the first 1-2 years are usually just gen ed courses, so you could start and figure it out. Allied health on its own won't do you much good.

Medical assisting is a good start to get an idea if you like Health Care, unfortunatly it doesnt leave you room to brach out or further education through that training. If you don't like the idea of nursing there are many other areas you can check into. In my area there are commercially operated schools that call themselves "colleges" yet offer only vocational training in what they call allied health, medical assisting, etc. None of their courses are considered college level. Their students end up getting an almost worthless piece of paper rather than a true degree. Check out RipOffReport.com for reviews of schools to avoid. In general you should avoid any for-profit schools and/or any online only schools. Many are outright scams. Don't waste your time and money on some commercially operated vocational school that will only issue a phony excuse rather than a true college degree. Before starting at any college, make sure that the classes will transfer to a 4 year state university . That's a good measure of whether or not the program is legit and well accepted. The best value for completing the gen ed requirements is a public community college. Just be sure to take only college level courses that will transfer to a 4 year university. It would be a good idea to sit down with an academic adviser at the community college before gambling on what classes will be credible for transfer.
