What to do about greasy hair?

What are causes and cures of overly greasy hair?

  • My hair gets greasy pretty fast, faster than it used to. I heard that the more often you wash it, the faster it makes grease. I'm wondering what I can do to help my hair stay less oily. I have a theory.... My face used to get greasy. so i started moisturizing it more, and this made my skin make less oils. if i condition my hair more will it make less oils? And if you have any other suggestions i'd appreciate it :)

  • Answer:

I feel your pain!! However, conditioning your hair more will make it oilier. I would suggest using dry shampoo (like Batiste) the day after you wash it - or whenever it gets greasy - and only use conditioner every two or three shampoos and ONLY on the ends, or use a light spray-in conditioner. If it's light enough, it COULD be used every day for detangling. Avoid *anything* with sillicone in it as it will weigh your hair down really badly, cause buildup and make it even greasier. I used to really like L'oreal NutriGloss Light spray but it's discontinued in the UK. It might not be where you are, though. Lush Seanik shampoo is great for me because it makes my hair softer and gives it more volume but doesn't strip away all the oils. Look for ingredients like seaweed, rosemary, mint, liquorice, charcoal, tea tree and sea minerals in facial and hair products. Corn/maize powder are great for absorbing oil, but I think you can only get those in facial products. Use blotting paper on your face (or roots if you're despaprate). Face maskss with clay in are good, and you can even get exfoliating ones. Big hairstyles thatlift your hair away from the scalp [beehives, backcombing, crimping et al] are good for oily hair as it means the oil can't travel down the hair so easily. Colouring your hair helps dry your hair and scalp out a little, too. Oily hair is caused my too much sebum being produced on your scalp. Sebum is what helps keep your skin soft, but it will need washing off once or twice a day

Washing with shampoo will get the oils out of your hair. If you don't want to wash your hair everyday try putting baby powder in your hair before you go to bed. It will cut down on the oils. Don't do it in the morning or you will have a white look to the roots of your hair and you don't want that. Also, you can try different shampoos to see what works better.

when I was young men used greasy concoctions in their hair. some even used Vaseline imagine that? It was awful and awful looking. I think you may be talking about oily hair however. Their are shampoos to help with that situation. If it is you that are having this problem you may want to consult a coiffure. If your boy friend is greasy...... well there might be some advantages in you like Mazola. lol
