All of a sudden my blood runs thick?

High blood pressure runs in my family - how do I avoid?

  • My grandpa died last year from a heart attack. He'd had diabetes for decades. My dad's not overweight but he has high blood pressure, and now my 13 year old sister does! I'm an athletic 16 year old female and I eat better than 99% of people my age, but I'm worried I'm destined to end up with high blood pressure and all the associated risks! Last time I went to the doctor they told me my bp was 130/50, which was "normal" according to them but the top number seems a little high... I know the "ideal" is like 110/70 or something. I just worry because this is seemingly the healthiest I'll ever be and I don't want me & my family to all die of heart disease! Sorry if this seeems like a stupid question but I can't help worry. How can I help me & my family reduce blood pressure and become healthier? We don't eat fast food, we're not lazy - why did we end up with all the bad genes??

You should ask the doctor more about the 50, rather than worrying about 130- this is variable, as per your exertions- the heart has to pump more blood, so the pumping pressure can [has to]go up.If your family doctor has all the records of your gr pa, & dad, pl. check for their lower values, which may give some clues, esp for a cardiologist to analyze .He will give more advice, exercise,diet, if needed. Take plenty of water, a cup of lemon juice/day, with a pinch of salt. Being athletic, doing regular exercise is good, in your case periodic BP & heart monitoring, plus tests of ecg, dynamic ecg, are also advisable. But never panic- that can do more damages than what we think !

Regular exercise, 3 times a week, eat healthy and be at a normal weight for your height. That's all you can do.

Just because other beverages contain water doesn't mean that your body is getting the benefits - it isn't. People think that the kidneys are some kind of elaborate filtration system. They aren't - the only thing the kidneys filter is the blood. This is because the blood is in an enclosed system - we don't drink fresh blood every day to replenish it. We DO, however, drink fresh water every day (at least that's the plan), and so a filtration system for water is not necessary. Water contained in other beverages is "engaged" water (already in use) and cannot be used by the body. Any nutrients the water contains are assimilated, but the rest is disposed of. So why isn't the water assimilated? Because water is the transport device for everything. If the body could use the water that the unneeded components were in, how would these components get transported to the kidneys for disposal? It would take water. The fresh water that goes into the body is used by the cells. By the time it comes back out of the cells, it too, is full of toxic waste - it's already engaged. So now you have engaged water going into the body, and the body is making engaged water as it uses its resources. You have engaged water going out but no fresh water going in. How do you properly hydrate the body? Plain and simple, you need to drink fresh water, not soft drinks, and not coffee and not energy drinks or Kool-Aid or whatever else you prefer the taste of over water. 3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100.
