If you want great quality and professionalism, i suggest saving up more money. You can do one of two things: On that $300-$400 you have, buy: Mixcraft 5 (around 80.00) Studio Speakers (around 80.00) Studio Headphones (ebay 70 - 80) Midi Keyboard *M-audio (ebay 70.00) Condenser Mic (ebay/musicians friend 80.00) Condenser mic's need phantom power so you'll need an interface/mixer blah blah... What I did: Took out a $1,500.00 loan and bout everything i need. I use pro tools 10 now. Mixcraft is what you need. In the end the equipment you will need: Condenser mic for vocals Pop filter for vocals Mud guard or Acoustic foam for reverb cancelation and for sound proofing (ebay or musicians friend) Audio Interface to hook up mic/instruments Cables to connect everything Midi Keyboard midi cable Good sound card for computer Mixer possibly Studio headphones Studio monitors recording software (mixcraft 5 is beast) Good beat software (ableton live or fl studio) good luck!!!

For a good studio, you are looking at $10,000 or more. You need a compressor, an equalizer, a few good mics, software, computer, etc. Even for a stripped down studio, you are looking at $600 for the mixing software, $400 to $500 for a couple of good mics..and that is no compressor, equalizer, patch deck, etc.
