How to put a logo on plastic surface?

Will acrylic craft paint melt on a plastic logo on a car dashboard?

  • Answer:

Unfortunately artist grade acrylic paint (comes in tubes) or any water based paint does not do well in direct sunlight. It might not melt but it will fade rather quickly, this is the reason fine art is kept in low light environments. In fact, all paints will eventually fade and peel when exposed to extreme sunlight and temperatures. The only type of paint that I am aware of that might last longer than all others is the "One Shot" sign paints ( http://www.dickblick.com/products/famous-1-shot-lettering-enamels/ ) which contain high levels of lead. Your best bet at this point would be to apply a good UV coating ( http://www.dickblick.com/products/krylon-uv-resistant-clear/ ) over the paint and let it last as long as it will. Mask around the logo with masking tape, pressing the edges well and then use paper to mask further to prevent over-spray, then apply a good coat. Good luck One more thing, the UV coating will cause a slight yellowing to the artwork so you might want to test an area first.
