What is the best relief for itchy watery allergy eyes?

Can I take more than one allergy medication together?

  • Every year when it gets warmer I have severe allergies. Sneezing...Itchy, swollen, watery eyes, and runny itchy nose! I took Claritin for many years with very good results but then all of the sudden one year the Claritin stopped working (I guess I built up an immunity). Anyways, last year is when the Claritin stopped working so I tried Zyrtec which did nothing for me. I then tried Allegra which seemed to work very well. Now the Allegra isn't working. I also take Benadryl at night just to be able to sleep. My question is could I couple 2 of the 3 allergy medicines that I have taken and maybe get some relief? I know I should be asking a doctor this question but I do not have insurance so I have to rely on over the counter medications. If anyone has any knowledge on what could help me I am open to just about anything!

Use regular saline nasal rinses to alleviate the inflammation in your nose. Avoid such sprays as Afrin; they can have a disastrous rebound effect. When OTC allergy medications no longer control allergies, it's time to see a doctor and consider immunotherapy which is often very effective in the long-term. Keep that in the back of your mind as a goal when you do get insurance.
