What strings should I get for my Fender Jazz Bass?

  • I have a Fender Highway One Jazz Bass and I want to get new strings for it. I like to play RHCP stuff and Rush. I am trying to, learn slap bass, but I also like REALLY smooth sounding stuff. the strings that I am looking at are Rotosound Swing Bass 66(Roundwound), Rotosound Jazz Bass 77(Flatwound), and Rotosound Tru Bass 88(Black Nylon). Which one would be better for a Fender Jazz Bass and why?

    I use D'Addario Half Round bass strings on my '92 Fender Precision Plus. The quality is good, they sound good to me in a variety of styles that I play, reduce string noise and they are easier on my fingers when I don't play or practice as often as I'd like. I don't see a lot of reviews posted, but you find a few at places like Amazon and Musican's Friend that sell them online. I order them through my local store also. its not whats best for the bass but what strings give the sound you want. Flatwound and nylon tape wound strings are not as bright-sounding as roundwounds. For stuff like slap and Rush, definitely get the roundwounds.
