How to record videos from sony handycam DCR-SX60E directly into iMovie in mac?...?

I connected the handycam via USB into the mac and then opened iMovie.. When i clicked the record button it showed that the handycam was connected... But it wouldn't record from it and after a few minutes it stopped showing the device and when i clicked record there was only one device available and it was the in built facetime camera...

USB won't stream the video. This is not a Mac issue - it is the same behavior for Windows. You can't do what you want with the limited equipment you have.
