Do ed assistants (special need) have to get into the pool to assistant special needs children?

    totally depends on the situation but most time - there has to be someone within arms reach in the pool and someone on standby on deck. When I taught Low DCD students and we did swimming unit in school - most of them had someone with them or for those who could swim some 1 adult to 2 kids. as well as people watching on deck.

In most cases, yes. If the students' special needs impact their ability to be safe in the pool, then an aide or aides should be with the student to monitor for safety. I did have an autistic student who was a great swimmer and was in a reg ed swimming class with an assistant there but not in the pool.
