Functionality and Design, a word or phrase to describe functionality over design?

  • Is there a word or phrase to describe an object, building, machine etc where the aesthetic elements of the design are dominated by the functionality? Eg, a motorcycle where all the parts are exposed and every defining visual characteristic comes from a component that has a function, as opposed to something like a large, impractical hat where the design interferes with the functionality.
