What is architecture really about?

Are architecture and archaeology related?

  • I need to know whether architecture and archaeology are closely related or not. The reason I'm asking this is because I am an undergrad math major but I plan on studying architecture in grad school. I need to take some courses that are related to architecture to make sure this is really what I am interested in pursuing. But my school does not offer an architecture program so I cannot take undergrad architecture courses. But courses in archaeology are available. Should I take those courses? Do they have anything to do with architecture at all?

  • Answer:

Architecture, Archeology and History are inextricably intertwined. So yes, study what you can. All Architecture exists from the lessons of what humans have built before. I don't know any good architects who are ignorant of the historic fundamentals of their art and science. I would also suggest math, engineering, and computer CAD courses if these are available to you. I wish you the best of success in your quest.

no. architecture is the study of building things. archaeology is the study of finding fossils, bones, artifacts, from long ago, dinosaurs, etc. but they are both very interesting fields

One way I see they are related is that you were studying the architect of archeology. I would set up an appointment with the school counselor. Ask yourself will the study of old buildings (which will be partially left and most likely out of stone) that are 1000's of years old help me with what I want to build today. The architectures I know are builder of homes. Good Luck

1. Your question is in the GENEALOGY CATEGORY - the study of direct bloodline relations within biological families, it has nothing to do with either architecture or archaeology. 2. Architecture is the designing of structures, the dictionary definition is: The art and science of designing and erecting buildings. 3 Archaeology is the scientific study of historic or prehistoric peoples and their cultures by analysis of their artifacts, inscriptions, monuments, and other such remains, especially those that have been excavated. You really, REALLY need to be talking to your counselor, Most Under graduates interested in Architecture would know the requirements for degree in the field. Try typing "architecture requirements for college" into the search there is a lot of information available. Most people interested in Architecture have taken a lot of math classes in high school as well as blue print reading classes.

No, they are not, dear child, other than they both start with "arch". The words probably have the same Greek root. Architects design new buildings. Archeologists dig up old buildings (and skeletons, and pot shards and other things) from long-dead civilizations. The closest you could probably come are classes in art and math. You should see a career counselor at your college. They get paid to help you find the right path for you, and the courses that will help. This isn't anywhere close to the right category, but we regulars are warm, wise, witty, well-read and, above all, devilishly handsome. You could have done worse.
