C'mon, folks, this is McDonald's, not IBM. Thank your supervisor for the opportunity, but hand in your uniform and leave. The manager wants to improve the work crew by getting better employees to work there. The boss was paying you a compliment, you were a good worker. Maybe McDonalds needs to send this manager back to Hamburger U to learn how to better train the people he/she has.

Write on a piece of paper "effective April 8 I resign my position with McDonald's", sign your name, and hand it to the manager tomorrow.

Its illegal in way a if your manager wont let you quit. Just leave and never come back. If you don't want to do that, just say. " I really don't like this job anymore and I would really love if you let me quit, It isn't fair for you to be forcing me to stay here when I don't enjoy my job" Also, You can also tell him you wont do as good of a job if your not enthusiastic about your work and you wont get as many customers and the business will fail. Good luck :D

Tell them you won't be doing any more shifts, and your work ethic will be Los (word it in your own way). Basically let them know you won't be trying if they keep you. Which they can't. So as long as they have 1 or 2 weeks notice, you can just hand in your uniform and never come back.

Always talk to your direct supervisor, go in there with confidence and explain that you are no longer happy and have a letter of resignation in your hand. That is the best way! The resignation should include the fact that you are leaving and date when your resignation is effective and thanks to your employer for the opportunities you have had during your employment (this will help ensure you don't lose them as a reference)
