How can I run alot faster?

I started track about 1 week ago, and I am a sprinter. There is one big problem though... I am a slow runner. I want to know how to run faster. The track coaches say I have a perfect form, but I don't know why I run so slow. I ran cross country in the fall, but that's different because it's long distance and you are not running as fast as you can until about the end of a race. I ran all through the winter. I am really slow and I will look dumb at our first meet because I will come in last place. I can't switch over to a different event in track I have to do sprints because it is already decided. I ran 100 meters in 17.2 seconds. I was one of the 5 slowest times. I also think I need to lose a few pounds I don't know if that's slowing me down. I am 5'5 and I weigh about 125 pounds. I have been trying to eat healthier. Please tell me how I can run faster?

If this is your first year doing track you should expect to be slow. My first year i was slow but i ran 14.9 in a 100. If you continuously do track every year spring and winter if your school has it then do it to stay in shape. Try taking vitamins in the morning also, i take "One A Day Teen Advantage for boys " look for them at walmart they help you alot you'll notice a change in how you do during the day and drink about 3-4 water bottles a day and pee it all out before practice. And if you have great form that's amazing i had horrible form during my first season of track. A good tip remember is The faster you pump your arms the faster your legs will move. Work on over striding also on your spare time if you don't do this in practice. This is when you stride about 20-30 yards with a larger stride than your used to. Focus on your knees to try to do High Knees about 20-30 yards also but focus on keeping your back straight up. All these helped me get faster i'm currently in my 3rd track season and my times have decreased pretty good. in 8th grade spring track i ran 14.9 in a 100m dash in a 200m i ran 29.7 and 55MASH i ran 8.30 Then this year in 9th grade when i ran winter track for the 55m dash i ran 7.50 My 4x200 split time was around 25.60 its an indoor track and i usually run faster indoor. Then in spring track of right now i just had a meet onSaturdayy and in the 100 i ran 13.00seconds and in the 200 i ran 27.00. Take my advice and if you need anymore email me. You should run a lot more. But set goals for yourself when running. Also, try talking bigger steps/strides while running.

your 13, just keep running, if your form is perfect then your on the right track, don't expect anything special after a week it takes a couple of months to see small differences, lucky for you the slower you are the more seconds you can shave off. eat healthy, and by that i don't mean carrot sticks, just eat everything your mom is cooking you veg and all, if your eating microwave food and pizza, tell her not to. also your just 13, your at the age where your just about to start developing at a huge rate. so eat alot of healthy food and keep running at the your max every time. turn up to every meet/ practice if you can because your coach is the pro, he will know how to get you faster. after that its all down to you.

Lift weights, like squats, squat jumps, etc. Also ab works will help the better core muscles you have the faster you get. And work on your form, your form key for running.

17.2 is pretty bad.... sorry Squat w/ a barbell, all sprinters both female and male do it. That's why their *sses are HUGE.
