What do you think about the Princess cruise line?

Answer:
I've been on two, the Sun Princess once and Dawn Princess twice, and will be going again. Around Australia and New Zealand, plus half a world cruise. They are great ships with very helpful and friendly staff and crew. They have a great cast of dancers and singers, with musical shows most nights, depending on whether you are in port or at sea, and often have comedians, magicians and other acts as well. Princess also have their own chalets ashore in Alaska, so they probably have the best choice of shore side excursions. The only thing you may need to think about is that all cabins are priced as doubles, so you have to pay 2 fares even if you go alone. There are libraries on board, usually various sports available, or just sit in the sun.

I have been on 12 Princess cruises with #13 coming this year and #14 booked for next year. Three of those cruises were to Alaska. So naturally I think Princess is great. Princess decor is sophisticated , not gaudy. Their service is great as well as there food. Princess is not for the party animal. But is suitable for those that like nice entertainment such as comedians, singing and dancing productions, or going to a night club for dancing. Many people love going to the piano bar in the evening. Princess does not have rock climbing walls, water slides, or surfing. But they do have movies under the stars, pool games and many activities during the day. They also have a champagne waterfall which I believe most other cruise lines stopped doing. At 44 years old you would fit in perfectly on a Princess cruise, no doubt about it, especially to Alaska. BTW, in all my Princess cruises, I have not come across a snooty person. Maybe just lucky, but everyone I have meet are so nice and friendly.

We took a cruise aboard Ocean Princess this past summer to the Mediterranean. We are older than 44 and I can tell you that you will be in good company. In our two week cruisewe rarely saw any children or teens. The staterooms are very nice and the food was outstanding. The crew was made up from countries all over the world and all of them were very nice. There was a lot of shows and other activities that were interesting. Two minuses. Onboard prices for cokes and other soft drinks were expensive ($2.59 each). Onboard laundry for personal items was also expensive. Cost for underwear was $3.50 each. So my suggestion is to bring enough underwear so that you can simply throw the dirty one in the trash since the laundering costs more than a new pair.

I've been on the Dawn Princess and had a terrible time and wrote a letter and they game me on board ship credit so I went on Diamond Princess and again disappointed. I did not write any more letters because I didn't want to cruise with them ever again. The ships are absolutely beautiful and their staterooms are a bit larger than other cruise lines but their food was by boring and he crew members were not very enthusiastic and they didn't have many activites. My favorite cruise line is Royal Caribbean by far

Our very first cruise was Princess, Vancouver to Anchorage. I was dragged on by my wife protesting I would hate it, be bored etc........ Loved it! We tried the big lines for several cruises. However we didn't like the crowds and missing the "real world" you pass by on the way to the next money making tourist stop, complete with 2+ other cruise ships also docked! There is however an alternative if you want to see the REAL Alaska etc. and wildlife rather than travelling on a resort ship! Went on 100 person ship Anchorage to Vancouver last August. Never saw a big ship! Never stopped at a tourist trap town! No dancing girls or casino. No crowds or queues! Visited back of beyond small towns - bet you have never been to a hammer museum - we have now! We spent most of the time out in the Zodiacs seeing the best show on earth - NATURE! -In front of a glacier having a 10,000 ton calving (mini tsunami moved us all around). -Standing in a salmon spawning stream with the fish swimming through our feet. -Being one side of a river watching bears catching salmon on the other side! -Spending 2 hours drifting with a pod of about 20 humpback whales bubble feeding - something you never expect to see live other than on TV. -Sea otters, Sea lions, Humpback breaching (jumping out of the water) about 50ft from us! -Barbecued on a spit of land surrounded by nature/mini icebergs/Eagles! -Drifting with a pod of Orca whales as we approached northern Victoria Island in the Inside Passage. -Total sensory overload all the time etc. etc. -You don't compromise comfort or good food! Yes they are more expensive - but worth it! If you are really adventurous you could even try dog sledging just South of Anchorage. We drove down in a rental car. You get helicoptered up on to a glacier where the Alaskan Iditorod husky dogs have their summer camp. A trip round the glacier and playing with the puppies is a very memorable experience! The choice is yours! We never go on big ships now! P.S. Another July Alaska cruise (going the opposite way) booked on a 114 person luxury ship with 10 Zodiacs so we can do even more wildlife exploring!

I've been on them once, out of Brooklyn, NY to the Caribbean. To be honest I didn't like it that much, but I like to be open minded and not think bad of an entire cruise line based on only one lousy cruise.
