How old do you have to be to work on a cruise ship?

  • Answer:

On most cruise lines you need to be 21 years old, have a minimum of 2 years of work experience in the position you wish to apply for and in your case, have passed the Steiner or Harding Brother training course. Most cruise companies hire crew members who are at least age 21 and who have 2 years of job experience on shore that relate to the job on board ship. To find requirements for any company for which you have interest, go to the cruise company web site and follow the link to "employment" or "jobs". People who work in the onboard beauty salons are almost always hired by Steiner or a similar company with contracts with the cruise companies, and the cruise company web sites will almost certainly have information about that.

i asked a member of NCL's crew in august while i was sailing with them and they said 21. Im sure that is standard with most cruise lines. European cruise lines could be a different story, but i would go under employment and see what their website says!

It depends on the line you work for. More than likely for Europe I'm guessing it is 18, but for any other line it'll be 21. Why not contact the cruise line and find out for yourself? It will let them know that you ar interested and soon to be available.
