What does your people eat for Easter?

What do people tranditionally eat at easter?

  • Answer:

Deviled eggs, potato salad & other salads, baby carrot sticks, & whatever veggies are at their prime in your area. For us, that would be asparagus this time of year. I like to fix multicolored bow-tie pasta with black wild rice as an accent, with fresh steamed asparagus, all coated with oil mixed with herbs, such as dried tarragon, oregano, or rosemary, added to taste. You could also use fresh cilantro, which is at its peak in cool weather. Ditto for fresh parsley, which could be used as a garnish on everything. Many people fix strawberrry shorcake or strawberry rhubarb pie because both strawberries & rhubarb also reach their peak in the spring. If there are any good avocadoes in the stores, those can be peeled & mashed for vegetarian sandwiches or slices to use as a luxurious garnish for rice. One year, the family next door had a big outdoor potluck. The wife said she'd bought pastel rainbow sherbet, so I made a double recipe coffee cake in a long pan to serve all the people. Of course, brownies & ice cream or any dessert would be fine, too. Oh, I just remembered that fresh pineapple from Hawaii is often available in the spring, so it would be a great time to serve it fresh or to make a pineapple upside-down cake. Many people in this area serve American food at holidays, but they also prepare & serve alongside it a full meal for their particular ethnic group, such as Italian, Mexican, Korean, or Eritrean. It must surely add up to an enormous amount of food. Other people meats, such as canned ham, that they think is traditional, but then they think they have to add fish, such as crab or salmon, to the meal, too, even though I don't think that either one of those is freshly caught in April. Go figure! Some folks, too, are Jewish & celebrating Passover, so they are having other foods, such as latkes & unleavened bread.

Not much healthy food at all, mostly chocolate eggs and chocolate and more chocolate

At our house we usually have ham cooked with maple syrup and pineapples, mashed potatoes made with light ranch dressing, mashed turnips with some sugar and butter in it, and carrots with butter and parsley mixed in them. For dessert we usually have lemon meringue pie and low fat ice cream :)
