Does anybody know much about the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland?

The University of Ulster in Coleraine, Londonderry in Northern Ireland, does anybody know much about it? Would you recommend it as a university and how does it compare to other universities such as Queens University Belfast, also in Northern Ireland and Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, both in the Republic of Ireland. Is the University of Ulster well recognised and is it at the top of the list? I'm from the Republic of Ireland and I know the university system inside out here in regards to where to go to do what and I'm just not sure about in Northern Ireland or in the UK. Thanks!

Ah right, well hey Kevin. The University of Ulster wouldn't be nearly as prestigious as Trinity, it's (to my knowledge) the hardest uni to get into in Ireland- I may be wrong but we had a talk from some lady and, that's apparently the case. Some of the universities down south are ridiculously hard to get into, you will have to do a conversion of your grades if you are studying up here because we have A levels and you do not so, as far as I know, your leaving cert (?) will contribute to what uni you go to. You should also try to get involved in voluntary work, sports teams, community causes, things like that to boost your character. Universities don't just want the grades anymore, they want the PERSON, which makes it a lot harder to break the barrier. Now, the Derry branch of the University of Ulster is pretty big, not massive but big. Their media studies are apparently good, their science is good, as is their technology. Coleraine would be the same but you have to find the right course first and see what you want to do (I recommend you go to some open days for a look around). Belfast, Queen's. Not as difficult to get into as Trinity, but it is a 'Sister' college and, those are pretty difficult to break into as well. I'd recommend (fee, living space, and people wise- as in roommates and friends) to go to the uni of Ulster, it's a lot more down to earth, a hell of a lot less intimidating and a lot of people love it there. I don't go to uni and never will (the fees up here are massive) but, Jordanstown or Derry would be the better choice for people and experience, Queen's for education and higher status and credibility, Trinity for pretty much every damn thing you could hope for, just nearly impossible to make it there. I am so sorry that this is so long.... Rambling on here... Just, best of luck with your decision, think hard, work hard, and do whatever makes YOU happy. :) Bacon: Lighten up. It isn't a 'fake university' and Derry is still technically called Londonderry whether you like it or not. It's not that big a deal.

It is a university of four campus areas. One in Derry, one in Jordanstown, one in Belfast and the other in Coleraine. Each campus teaches different subjects so it depends on what course you want to do, that will dictate where you would go. In the UK 2012 university rankings Queens is listed at number 38 and University of Ulster is listed at number 56, out of a total of 116 universities. It would be of a lower standard than Queens and Trinity, but no idea how it would rank compared to UCD. I have many friends who went there, none really had issues getting work after graduating. Here is the full rankings of universities for the UK for 2012; http://www.university-list.net/uk/rank/univ-9063.html

University of Ulster - these campus - Derry, Coleraine, Belfast and Jordanstown (the latter is outside Belfast by 8 miles). I went to Jordanstown. Great spot - but very much dependant on the course you too. Trinity - Classic and Best of the bunch Queens - Second place. UCD J Town.

All depends on what you want to do really. If it's journalism then you have one of the best in Europe. And you have the fun and nightlife around Portrush and Portstewart. Sports are pretty good in Coleraine too and there's a bus and rail link virtually to the front door. Plenty of student lets in Portrush too.

Fake country fake county fake 'university' it's more of a polytechnic. And you're a fake, somebody from the 26 calling Derry by the fake name i don't think so.
