What HD camera should I invest in?

What's a decent HD camcorder to start shooting weddings, special events and music videos?

  • I have been shooting and editing video for about six years now and I have the opportunity to make some money by acting as videographer for a few weddings. I enjoy making music videos and short films on my own time though. My current camera is a low quality Cannon so I'm looking to invest in a new one, but my problem is that I am terrible with all of the technical details. I am looking for something that shoots HD, good audio and preferably built in lighting. I'm not looking for the highest end options as I'm planning on slowly working my way up. And I also plan on purchasing an extra microphone for capturing audio. I work on a Mac and use the Final Cut Express editing software. I'm more than comfortable with my shooting and editing skills, I am just looking for higher quality audio and visual that is compatible with my editing equipment. I plan on spending around the ball park of 1,000-2,000 for the camera, but I would not be surprised if I find a suitable camera in other price categories. Any information is helpful!!! ESPECIALLY if someone could point me in the direction of a good camera store in the central Florida area for me to direct future questions and do business with.

I'm in the same ball park as you but I have an Idea what I want. I really want a JVC GY-HM100U. My professor has (personally) a pair of those. If I cant get that Im look in getting a DSLR Cannor 5d but u need a zoom h4n for audio. Ima get a pair of Go Pro Cameras too they shoot amazing quality. My school used them a few scenes for a tv show (which actually aired)

I have shot many weddings, and it would be a sorry day in hell when I taped someones wedding with a HD camcorder. Too many issues to list, but the major one, the video interpolate is an issue i would not risk shoot the couples moments they want to remember. MiniDV tape camcorders is the way to go with this one.

From reading your POST.. You really don't have any idea of useing a video camera.. I think if you get a job at a wedding you will be sued for corruption.. === Ya' got the HD..part correct.. ...the rest of your knowlege is really..pre-historic.

For basic editing, Wondershare Vivideo for Mac is a great choice: It's also free trial, so that's always nice.
