What are the SM Entertainment auditions like?

SM Entertainment weekly auditions?

  • So, I'm planning on going to the L.A. weekly auditions in a few months and I have a few questions to ask... 1. Well I'm Vietnamese and part Chinese.. Do you think they would mind if I'm not Korean? 2. I'm 15 years old. Is that a good age to audition? 3. I'm planning on singing for my audition, but how many songs would I have to prepare? Also, would I have to bring instrumental music for when I sing my song? I heard that they don't allow you to bring a CD anymore so I'm a little confused. Would I have to sing acapella? 4. I heard that if I sing, that I have to do freestyle dance too. Is that true? 5. Do they make everyone do the rhythm test? What happens in it? 6. Does SM really make you get plastic surgery? 7. If they like me and I get called back, what happens after that? Do I have to prepare another song? 8. I don't know Korean.. Would they teach it to me? Also, would I be going to a normal school to learn regular subjects like English, Math, etc... 9. What would the life of a trainee be like? How would the schedule be and whatnot. 10. Does SM pay everything for you? Like the plane ticket, food, etc.. 11. What are the chances of you actually getting to debut? 12. Would they let you visit your family? 13. I'm 5'2. Is that an okay height for being in SM? Thanks guys! :)

    1. They may accept you al long as you're asian, so yes!! 2. It's a pretty good age actually, but to be honest 13-14 is the best age, but 15 is still good!! 3. Well, it's better to prepare more songs, just in case, maybe around 3 (cuz, there will be 3 rounds)? You won't have to bring an instrument for singing. And you have to sing without music. 4. Yes, but you can don't dance, you can just stand there. they will just play some music and beats and they will tell you to dance with other 9 people (I think). But it's better for you to dance! 5. I remember I read it somewhere, but i forgot sorry! I think everyone has to do it, but don't worry it's easy to do (as I remember) 6. If you need to, then yes. But i think you can always refuse, i mean they can't force you right? 7. Well, you just go back there and audition for the 2nd round and yes, you will have to prepare another song. 8. Yup, they'll definitely teach you korean and if you don't know korean, you'll most likely go to Kent Foreign School (i think thet's what it's called) which is an international school!! 9. You wake up, go to school, immediately train right after school for like 5-7 hours, then go back to your dorm, do school work, then sleep. It's pretty much liike that everyday, I think you get sundays off. 10. Yup!! 11. The chance are slim, there are like many other trainees too. So you will have to stand out among them, never give up hope and try your best!! 12. Not really, maybe like once a year or maybe even never, i don't know... 13. Height doesn't matter to sm. hope this helps :D

It's fine if you're not Korean since f(x) Victoria is from SM and is Chinese and she had said that she took Korean lessons when she became a trainee. SM also debuted EXO which also has chinese members, which I'm pretty sure they didn't know much korean either when they moved to Korea. I think 5'2 is fine. SNSD's Hyoyeon and Sunny are 158 cm which is about 5'2. Good luck :)

PrivateNovels:)

Sorry, I don't know... Goodluck though if you decided to audition. (: (I think 5'2 is alright, since Sunny from SNSD is like 5'1. I actually thought she's taller than that because she looks tall in their MVs).

Research before asking these. 1. They won't mind. 2. You're 16 in Korea. Most trainees come at ages 15-18 so it's reasonable. Audition before you get too old. 3. Prepare at least two but you'll only sing one. You can't sing instrumental. Sing acapella. 4. You don't have to but it's recommended. They put music on and you have to dance to it. If you don't, it's your lost. 5. The singing is the rhythm test. Unless you're doing dancing. The dancing is. 6. Depends on how bad you look. 7. When you get a call back they ask you to fly to South Korea and perform in front of other judges so yes, you prepare another song. 8. Yes but you should learn Korean now. Some companies don't even teach Korean (ex. YG) so you shouldn't waste your time. 9. Hours a day of training even after school, 3-6 hours of rest depending on the company you have, barely any free time--wait no, scratch that. NO free time. Seeing your family every few months. That's why some trainees drop out of school (ex. Minzy in 9th grade) because of the lack of free time and lack of sleep. 10. When you get accepted. 11. Barely. Say if they have a 5 girl girl group. You wouldn't realize this but there's about 15-20 other trainees who are in their quarters right now who would do anything to be them. 12. Every few months. 13. You're really short just for kpop. But it's okay. If you're really talented, they would accept you.

Just a warning, you might want to think over the entertainment company you're auditioning for. Even though SM is one of the best, they're known for slave training their artists and not letting them get some rest. They get people based on 80% looks and 20% talent. I'm not hating on them seeing how most of the greatest groups today come from SM. If you have the determination then go for it despite what you think of yourself. Oh, but just know that (maybe) if you do become a trainee, everything they spent on you while you're a trainee will becomes a debt when you debut :)
