What's the best life insurance?
-
This question is for my mom. My mom is 63 years old and needs life insurance. She is in great condition. Never smoked or done drugs. She never drinks alcohol. The only thing really is that she has been told she is borderline diabetic. My mom doesn't have a lot of money so she would like to find an insurance that is very cheap. Her job will be ending in July an will only have her disability to live off of. So what's the best life insurance?

IF she's borderline diabetic, likely she's overweight. that will increase the price dramatically. Frankly, she's too old to get "cheap" prices. And what's her NEED for life insurance, anyway? How MUCH? What's the GOAL, what's she trying to achieve with life insurance? She needs to sit down with an agent in your city, to figure out what she needs, how much, and IF she can afford it at all.

You state, "The only thing really is that she has been told she is borderline diabetic." But, you said she's on disability. Nobody goes on disability for being borderline diabetic. If she's disabled the policy will be expensive. Call a life insurance broker.

Insurance in older age can cost an arm and a leg. For any significant amount you she could easily pay $5,000 a year. Some say, that you are better off opening a savings account, and putting the money you would pay in premiums in a savings. Does she really need life insurance? A person only needs life insurance if she/he has dependents that cannot live without their income. Otherwise is really useless. Unless family members just want to make a bit of profit when she passes. An older person should make it a priority to have a savings account with beneficiaries named to pay for the funeral and final costs.
