How to free increased physical memory consumption?

Why has my fuel consumption increased?

  • I drive a BMW 316i and over the last month or so ive noticed the fuel consumption increase quite dramatically to about 25mpg. It's mainly city driving but im not a mad man behind the wheel so it isnt down to aggressive driving. The Engine is running alot louder than it used to when stationary and when in motion and the car isn't accelerating as fast as it used to. I'm going to take it to a garage but i'd like a fair idea before i go. Any help would be great. Cheers.

    Well if it's louder that points to the exhaust, which can affect fuel consumption.

Could be a few things from needing a tune up to a bad sensor somewhere. You said the exhaust got louder? Probably have an exhaust leak and its throwing one of the o2 sensors off. Have that checked out too.

Bad/failing O2 sensor and dirty air filter are the problems that come to mind for this issue

Normally i'd say it's the city driving that does it, 25mpg sounds about normal around town. But from the sounds of it you have a blowing exhaust and/or the car is in need of a good service.
