Why are people still comparing Cristiano Ronaldo to Lionel Messi?

  • I am fed up; Cristiano Ronaldo is not in Messi's league! Did you hear what I have just said? In all honesty he is a great player and his goal scoring with Real Madrid is outstanding, but I do not know why people rate him so highly! Lionel Messi is not only the best player because his football abilities, but also because of his character and behaviour (sorry for using because twice)! What makes Cristiano Ronaldo a more complete player than Messi? Is it because he can do football freestyle sills? I don’t want to sound arrogant, nonetheless I think that I am as good as C. Ronaldo if not better in football freestyle! Do you think C. Ronaldo is the second best "footballer" (not goal scorer)?

    You're just as immature as the kids I see arguing on Youtube about Battlefield and COD, it's ridiculous. They are both COMPLETELY different players. There is not one player better than another, just what that type of player has that makes him more ideal to a situation than another. For example, against a team like Stoke, I'd rather play a big battling, physical player like Drogba over Messi any day, because Drogba can compete in the air and use his strength to his advantage. Messi is technically gifted, Ronaldo is a Footballing machine. You shouldn't be asking who the better player is, but who is more fitted towards defeating a certain opposition due to their strengths and weaknesses. There are too many things to take in to account to ever sufficiently compare the two based on what they have. they're too different.

They are different players in many ways, that is why they shouldn't be compared. However I also think that, if compared, Messi is indeed the better overall footballer. Not only does he score and can score at will and at any moment, sometimes simply other times magically (which Ronaldo does too), but he is also a better team-oriented player, selfless when he must be and selfish when he must be. His attitude, too, is great, better than Ronaldo's, for sure.

People ALWAYS fail to remember who both - ronaldo and messi - have around them. Yes there movement and ability are great - clinical finishers etc. As one post mentioned....how well did they both do in the world cup? Messi scored: 0 and Ronaldo scored: 1.....David Villa was the second highest in the whole competition.....Remind me, who does Villa have around him.....coincidence?
