What does starvation mode really mean?
-
So I'm 5'2 and 110 pounds, my BMR is 1321.5. I don't really exercise much because I don't have time, only walking to college for like 15 minutes. But I do dance in the weekends though. Anyways, since I doesn't burn the calories I eat usually bellow 900 calories! Usually 700 - 900. Maximum 1000 calories. I don't really know what starvation mode means but it really freaked me out and I started to eat almost 1200 calories and ended up gaining weight, so I'm back to 900 and bellow calories. So my question is what does starvation mode really mean? I DO eat and I'm always full at the end of day, but since I'm a vegetarian I don't consume a lot of calories anyway.

Answer:
Starvation mode is basically your body storing fat when you don't eat anything. Like, this one girl I knew thought she would lose weight faster by not eating anything. Yes, she did weigh less on the scale, but when she went back to eating, she gained that whopping five lbs back. Starvation mode pretty much puts your body in shock by the way. Hope this helps :-)

You gained weight BECAUSE you are in starvation mode. In essence you are eating too little to survive. Your body freaked out and it said "oh my god there is a famine! we must conserve!" So now every little bit you put in your mouth your body will try to keep for later. And when and if you decide to go back to a 'normal' diet plan you will gain back everything you lost and then some. The only way to undo what you have done is to eat a normal balanced diet for a while until your body realizes there is enough food and starts burning energy instead of storing it. You're in a 'storage mode' right now. You've shot yourself in the food. Damned if you do and damned if you don't. And you don't need to lose weight. 110 is fine for your height. Anorexic?
