Laptop screen--funky colors all of a sudden?

Which contains the true colors for my screen? My laptop or desktop?

• My desktop's screen, has deep, vivid colors...and I like the way it looks. But my laptop is a little brighter. And there's only 2 options on my laptop to fix the way it looks and they look about the same. How do I know which one shows the true colors of a computer screen? On my laptop, most of my images come out lighter and I don't like it. Is that the way the majority of computer screens appear? How can I view the true colors of my computer screen? Thanks.
