Why is my laptop so hot?

  • So I've had this Dell laptop for about a year now and recently (I reinstalled Windows 7) it's started to become REALLY feaking hot! Before the reinstall, Idle would normally be about 50-55 C gaming at 80-85. Now it's at 60-65 C idle and gaming is at 85 and up! I have never had this problem before and before anyone says to buy a laptop cooler I already have one. It's a custom build with case fans and pushes more air through than a conventional one would. This is getting really frustrating especially because my system occasionally shuts down after it breaks the 100 C mark. I don't know what to do. Oh, and I'm CompTia certified and all the friends I asked are as well.

  • Answer:

Try some simple fixes for your Dell laptop overheating problem: Clean laptop air vents with airduster Always set laptop on a flat surface, so air can flow freely around and underneath it. Make sure air vents are not blocked. Games and other programs that drive CPU usage toward 100% can contribute to overheat. Never use your laptop and charger on bed/couch with fan ventilation covered. Buy a good quality laptop cooling pad. If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your laptop charger power supply or power source problem? Defective or low quality charger with insufficient power might contribute to overheating. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. The charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective or low quality charger. laptop battery charger lifespan is limited and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like topmic.com

Probably the problem is inside your laptop. Maybe some dust close the openings through which air passes from the cooler. And thats way you have this problem. I hade the same, open the laptop clean cooler and openings and now work very good.

you have already cleaned the fan and heat exchanger, right? i would check for a bios update too. it sounds like the o.s. has the fan speeds screwed up. diamond cpu paste wouldn't hurt, but something tells me that if it was a cpu paste problem, the temp would peak faster. i'm gonna go with fan speed on this. or a dirty fan/exchanger. it's possible that your vid. driver is overworking the gpu and that is where your heat is coming from. see if you can find a program that will allow you to adjust your fan speeds and check your system monitor to see which programs are stressing you.
