I want to become a firefighter but I look really young?
-
I have always wanted to become a firefighter. That was my plan ever since I graduated from high school. Well I havnt done it yet because I look really young. Im 19 now but people say I look like im 14 or 15. Im 5'7 140. I can't wait anymore. Community College really sucks. I know it sounds stupid but I really don't want to go into the academy looking like a preteen. So what should I do?

Answer:
Don't worry about it bro. I just got out of the academy myself. One of my best friends from class was 19, most of my fellow cadets were eighteen. Looks don't matter, once you're in, you're in. The point is dress and act like a professional and don't worry about what other people think. You gotta develope a thick skin to do this job. Trust me once you start this job you'll be having too much fun to care. Good luck and welcome to the family.

First off, whoever says 19 is too young to be a firefighter is full of garbage...I've been a firefighter since I was 16, first as a volly and then paid. Now on to the question; looks don't mean anything in the fire service (everyone loves a firefighter!). But for real, if you are worried about it then get into the weightroom and start pumping some iron and working out. The people at the academy wont judge you on your looks but on your skill in the business, so if you have a good aptitude for being a firefighter then you'll be just fine.

If you are worried about looking young you don't have the confidence required to do the job, stick in at college while working on your fitness to make sure you can pass the physical tests.

You're too young for that dude. After 18, think about it.
