How To Play The Organ?

Should I play the Xylophone or the Organ?

  • I am taking up a new instrument. I can only take up one of these two. I had a hard time narrowing it down to just these two so please no more suggestions. I already play the Bagpipes and nothing else. I want to play the Xylophone because it is a very cool instrument and some people at my school play it really well and I would love to be able to do that. I would like to play the Organ because I would be the only one at my school who plays it and I think it would be a really cool instrument to learn. I get a certain period of time learning it for free depending on the uniqueness of the instrument (the more people play it, the less the school needs so the less time you get as a free trial and vice versa) Also, do you have to be able to play an instrument before moving on to these (eg. grade? on the ? before organ and grade ? on the ? before playing the Xylphone

  • Answer:

What kind of organ? Pipe organ? Electronic organ? Have you learned how to read notes on the keyboard yet? Xylophone might be a little easier to get started on and you could probably learn to play some songs quicker on the xylophone than on the organ. The drawback of both of these instruments is that you can't practice either one at home. You have to go practice where the instrument is. I've played pipe organ and it's pretty difficult to learn. Electronic organs can be fun, but there are many, many brands and varieties out there and there's no standard. If you have access to a classic Hammond organ like a B3 or a C3, it would be great to learn that.
