What would working at a hotel as a receptionist be like?

Unemployment benefits in ohio and working?

  • Hi I am writing this for my sister who is receiving unemployment in Ohio. She is currently in school and does not have to complete the applications due each week; however, she does it anyways. She recently heard of a couple of places in her town that are hiring. One is working as a hotel receptionist/room service. This job will only be about 10-15 hours a week and making minimum wage for tipped employees which is 3.70 an hour. The second job is working at a store making minimum wage of 7.70 an hour for a guaranteed only ten hours a week. She makes 179 a week on unemployment before taxes. Her questions are if she does get the job as a hotel receptionist/room service wills she looses her unemployment? If not does she have to report any tips made? If she gets the store job will she loose her unemployment?

  • Answer:

It depends on how many hours are worked and how much is earned per week. All income is required to be reported to unemployment. Most likely she would receive partial benefits. for some states that means working less than full time, and earning less per week than your weekly benefit amount.
