What is the cause of my leg pain?
-
I started getting leg pain in September 2010. The pain started off behind my right knee, in my hamstrings. I went to the doctor in late September, they found nothing and recommended me to an orthopedic doctor. When I was at the orthopedic doctor they said my hamstrings were extremely tight. The doctor told me to try magnesium tablets and to do physical therapy. I tried the magnesium tablets for 2 weeks, but when they weren't working I stopped. I started physical therapy and was working on loosening my hamstrings and using my butt muscles properly. I stopped physical therapy after a month and a half because it wasn't helping. The pain continued and worsened. In November, I began playing basketball for my middle school. I would try and push myself no matter how much it hurt. I returned to the orthopedic doctor again. This time the pain had spread to my left leg and was in my knees and shins. I got x-rays on my legs, which showed nothing was wrong with my legs. Towards the end of the basketball season (March) the pain was going away. By May I barely ever had pain. Every once and a while I would get pain, but I just ignored it. I played summer league basketball and was fine for the most part. At the end of August I began playing tennis for my high school, every once and a while I would get pain but again I just ignored it. In November 2011, I began playing basketball for my high school. I still didn't have much pain in my legs. In January 2012, I was kneed in my thigh right above my right knee. A few seconds after I was hit I felt the same pain that I had the year before. I was taken out of the game and iced my leg on the bench. The next day I went to my high school's athletic trainer. I can't remember what she said, but she put together stretches for me to do before practice and games. The pain continued and was getting worse. The trainer ask me about my diet and made sure I was getting the right abouts of food (to make sure my diet wasn't the cause of my pain). She also had me drink more electrolytes. She also had me get blood work done to make sure I didn't have Lyme disease and etc. She also looked at my back to try and see if I injured a disc (she didn't find anything). I went back to the orthopedic doctor and got an x-ray on my back. The x-ray showed nothing. The doctor said I might have a little bit of swelling in my back and put me on an anti-inflammatory for two weeks. The anti-inflammatory did nothing. The doctor sent me to get an MRI on my back, my back looked normal. I am currently on the track and field team for my high school. Although I haven't actually been able to do practice other than just walking around the track. I have been doing stretching/rehab for 81 days now. The rehab helps for the first hour or so after the rehab. The doctor does not think it is arthritis, but is sending me to a rheumatologist. My appointment for the rheumatologist is in a month and a half. As of now, they don't really know what's wrong with me. The pain in my right and left legs are: - I feel extreme tightness in my hamstrings when I stand - Pain in the sides of my knees, it feels like someone is drilling into my knees - I feel like someone is hitting me with a hammer in muscles around my shins - Leg spasms wake me up in the middle of the night, leaving me weak in my legs the next day - Leg cramps wake me up in the middle of the night, leaving my legs feeling funny - Sometimes when I sit down for no more than 10 minutes I get a pins and needles feeling (which is normal) but once it's been 15 or 20 minutes of sitting my legs feel funny. When I go to walk I almost feel drunk. My legs shake and I can't walk straight and can walk no more than 5 steps. Then my legs go completely numb. They feel heavy and numb. (It has only happened 3 times) - I feel like someone took a knife and sliced a line in my knee. It feels like it is bleeding. - Sometimes it feels like I have brush burn on the back of my legs, when I don't. - I have extreme aching pains in my knees and shins when I am sitting. - I get sharp, aching, numb pains. - It hurts to stand, walk, run, sit, and pretty much hurts to do anything. - My back is a little sore, but I hardly notice it. The only reason I started paying attention to it is because they were worried my back was causing the pain. There are more pains, but it would take way to long to list all of them. If anyone has any ideas of what the problem is I would appreciate it. Thank You.
