Why is my serial usb cable not working?

My ipod's USB cable isn't working?

  • Whenever you plug in your USB cable to charge your ipod, a little battery life image comes on, but my ipod isn't doing that. I figured restarting it and everything, and it still hasn't worked. I left it in over night, and I woke up to a fully charged battery but still no battery life image.. odd. Now, I'm trying to plug it into my computer to sync my itunes. My computer keeps saying it can't recognize my usb port or whatever. I'm pretty sure there's no damage to the cable, so I have no clue what's going on. Help? (I really don' want to restore my ipod..)

You have two options; One: take it into Apple and have them look at it to see if it's a problem with the iPod, and not the cable. Two: You'll have to buy a new cable. It's possible that a wire's gotten loose inside of the cable itself, which results in the charging process to fail. I had something similar happen, but with the charger for my Macbook. It ended up being a matter of the cable being bent, and a wire coming loose. Hopefully this helped.
