How long will it take for this to heal?

How long will my wound take to heal?

  • I recently had surgery to remove an abscess from my leg that developed from an infection. The nurse described the wound as 1cm deep and 2cm wide. It is still very painful and inflamed, i am taking antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and painkillers, and and the dressing is being changed daily using Kaltostat which is packed inside the wound. The surgeon, doctors and nurses are all a bit vague about how long it will take to heal as there are so many variables. My question is two parts. A) for how long might the dressing need to be changed on a daily basis, and B) how long for the wound to heal? I understand there are different contributing factors, but if anyone could give me an estimate based on their experience I would be most appreciative.

  • Answer:

As long as the infection is controlled the rate of bandage change will go down, but changing it daily will let it breathe and let you see if the infection is clearing up or getting worse. What's the rush? I would give it 6-8 week's.
