Becoming an Air Force Officer, but also wanting to join the Peace Corps?
-
Currently, I am in the Air Force ROTC at my college. I love the program and intend on continuing with it. However, I have always wanted to join the Peace Corps. I don't know how that would work with ROTC, beings right after college I start my Air Force commitment. Would I have to wait until I have retired from the Air Force to do the Peace Corps? Or is it possible to do the Peace Corps right after I graduate, and then start my Air Force Officer career? If I would have to wait to retire, I would just not do the Peace Corps. I don't plan on retiring from the Air Force after a short time period. We had a Peace Corps speaker come talk in a class today, and I asked if I could still do the Peace Corps if I was in the military, she said yes, that she has had people do it before. The only issue is if one has worked in intelligence. Thanks for all the input though. I am more then likely going to stear clear of the Peace Corps. I can volunteer in other ways. :)

Answer:
The Peace Corps will do nothing but keep you out if you drop ROTC and join. Creates a security risk that will keep you from a commission if I remember correct. Enlisted have to have been out for several years and cannot serve in the same country they did Peace Corps service in. I do not recall which reg it was in but it is there!

You will not be able to join the Air Force if you were ever in the Peace Corps. I am currently in the enlistment process and one of the first questions they ask you (to try to DQ you before you move forward) is if you were ever in the Peace Corps.

Peace Corps will take a back seat to the contract you will sign with the USAF.

one or the other. can't have both. if you do PC first you will be ineligible for a security Clearance and this cannot get a Commission. if you do the AF first you will be ineligible to join the PC due to your military affiliation.
