Has anyone used a Neti Pot?

I used a neti pot yesterday with regular warm tap water. Has anyone else made this mistake? Were you okay?

  • After using the Neti pot with regular tap water, I found out that if you use tap water there's potential risk of a deadly infection by Naegleria fowleri, a water borne amoeba. I live in the Southwest, and I know our city's current water source is a lake system, which is also a risk factor. I'm really worried now... but I'm not sure if I should be. Has anyone else made this mistake? Should I be worried?

  • Answer:

Yes, I have heard about this but I have never done it. The bacteria that you speak of is very rare. If I were you, I would use distilled water in the future.
