What impact has jazz made on American music today?

SUPPORT THE UNDERGROUND MUSIC SCENE! We need to take our music back.?

• The commercial music industry has turned todays music into the product of a conveyer belt, production line. I know many out there enjoy programs like American Idol but these shows are the very root of the problem. Underground music is ten times the quality of the majority of the commercialized one hit wonders out there. Music is supposed to be about the sound, the song, the lyrics, the feeling. Today it`s about the looks, the sights, how pretty, how sexy, how good the video is, etc. I often wonder how many of these "artists" would have ever made it without their looks or their videos. What if they had to depend on their singing and their songs?? I would bet there would be an instant shortage in musicians. Don`t get me wrong. I know that there are great artists out there today. I`ve been witness to the growth of future legends. But there are far more Barbie Dolls who can`t sing or cute little teenagers who have nothing artistic to offer than real genuine talent out there. There`s a reason that music from the 60`s and 70`s is still a huge part of the market. Back before the vocal enhancers to keep the shady vocals in key, before MTV, before people started "WATCHING" music instead of LISTENING to music. How many of todays so called superstars music will still be played on the radio in 40 years?? Thank God for the Underground scene. With such talents as Joe Bonamassa, The Funky Meters, Widespread Panic, Derek trucks, The Allman Brothers, Gov`t Mule, Screamin` Cheetah Wheelies, Mofro, Papa Grows Funk, The Mother Truckers, Phish, Phil Lesh, Robin Trower, Robin Ford, etc.etc. So those of you who feel this way or even partially this way,...how can we take our music back?? I was told to start requesting some of these underground artists to be played on the radio, stop watching these American Idol type programs, just don`t tune in nor buy these CD`s that only have one or two songs that you even like. Remember when the albums were the opposite with only one or two songs you didn`t like?? Let`s take our music back before there is absolutely nothing remaining. Well to answer the why do I care now before it goes further is the point. It would be nice to keep this music alive and out in the open for everyone to hear. With the chance of bringing "real talent" with "real musicians" back into the industry. Not because they are pretty but because the music is superb. There are many more groups and individuals that play a multitude of musical genres. these are just off the top of my head so to speak. Phish is underground though popular as the others I named simply due to touring. Like Phish, most of these groups or individuals sell out their shows yet remain as you state, unknown by the populas. Why I care is the essence of the entire blog as it were.

  But if underground music becomes popular... ...then it's no longer underground... Why do yah care if the music you like is popular or not anyway? Oh yeah, and the only band I recognized from your list was Phish, and I wouldn't call them underground.
