Good inexpensive laptop for Windows? (700 or less?

What is a good laptop for video editing?

  • I am a film student, edit videos all of the time on my laptop. But my laptop isn't meant for editing, barely gets the job done at times. Saving up some money now and looking to get a new laptop. I need a laptop with 8GB of RAM, around 600GB hard drive, good graphics card and either i5 or i7 processor. Hoping to pay anywhere from $700 to in the early $1000. I've been looking, and I've found a couple Asus models I like, but I'm still looking and asking around. If anyone knows of a laptop, or even a brand that is reliable for video editing and some video games as well, I'd really appreciate any assistance very much. Also, if anyone can convince me to use a Mac, try, 'cause I'm kind of starting to like the sound of a Mac. Just hard because I've always used Windows. Thank you!!

Dell Inspiron 17R N7010 17 Laptop i5-460M 4GB 500GB HD.The computer comes with a Getting Started type of manual that's quite thorough for that purpose. There is no expanded user manual, but there is a repair manual available online. The machine is 64-bit operating system capable, but how well that works, depends upon implementation. The laptop has a port for an analog monitor. It also has an HDMI port for direct, external display. This computer has a simple method to switch displays between a TV/amplifier/receiver/projector, computer, or both. For full HDMI resolution you need to switch to projection eg TV only. The 17" maximum screen resolution is 1600 x 900 and restricts the size when simultaneously sending a signal to its screen and the TV.

If you're starting to like the sound of a Mac; extend your budget because its gonna cost you more then $1,000.. Especially if you're trying to game with it. I personally don't recommend Macs at all whatsoever. They are not bad, just extremely overpriced and over-hyped. You aren't paying for a great laptop, you're paying for the Apple brand. That being said you should browse newegg.com. You don't even have to spend $1000 to get a great laptop. Here are a couple: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215267 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214613 Plenty others to choose from on the site. P.S. Brand name really isn't all that important, and there is no specific "reliable" one used for editing. You should base your purchase on specifications and value only, not brand.

if you want a good video editing laptop, then get a macbook pro for final cut pro (in addition to after effects). laptops aren't really meant for gaming as they tend to overheat and shorten the lifespan of hardware. so putting 2 and 2 together: using your work computer for gaming (ie: chance of breaking the system) is not a smart idea.
