You can find the Java API here: docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/ And I thoroughly recommend two books: "Ground-Up Java" by Philip Heller, which teaches you the basics of Java (I too had a background in C before learning Java, and I can't rate this book too highly! And no, I don't get diddly-squat for recommending this, or any other book); and "Core Java2 Volume I-Fundamentals" by Cay S. Horstmann and Gary Cornell. This is my one reference manual: to me it's indispensable. Good luck!

My opinion is that android is going to fail within a few years unless they spend a bunch of money to lure developers in.
