How to take care of a caterpillar?

• I found a caterpillar and its green with like 6 white lines going down the sides and back. I found it out on a chair in the rain and i decided to help it. i had got a big cup/jar and filled it a quarter way with dirt. i put some leaves and sticks in the container but its just sitting on the stick and it doesnt move very much. Any tips or things i can do to feed it and take care of it?

  Hey, I'd love to help, but make finding out exactly what kind of caterpillar it is your first priority. Not all caterpillars eat the same leaves, so look up "Green caterpillar with white lines..." Make sure to add if it is fuzzy, if it has horns make sure you add that to your search. If nothing comes up broaden it a bit. My suggestion is to look in Google Images to find the caterpillar closest to your friend there. Then find the leaves and such it eats. Another important thing is to remember that a lot of caterpillars are, in a word, lazy. They don't do too terribly much so don't feel like you are doing something wrong. Also, be sure to have one larger stick and prop in on the side of the container. That way, when your friend is ready to make his big change, he can make his cocoon on a stick... the way they usually do in nature. Hope it helps, good luck!
