Netflix causing slowdown on home LAN - anybody?
-
The past two weeks I've noticed anytime I run Netflix streaming on my PS3 (which is set to wireless), everything else on my LAN slows down, online games on my PC (which is hardwired into the router), my IP work phone, etc. I run a 3.0 Mbps DSL connection. It does not appear to be having any speed issues if you go to speedstream and do a test. I've read about Netflix users having trouble with the Netflix stream itself, but not the other way around. Currently my stream from netflix looks like it always does, but why on earth is it swallowing up my bandwidth all of a sudden, and is there any way to control the Netflix connection speed on the PS3? Again, this has never been a problem before one to two weeks ago.

Answer:
Your DSL connection is most likely a MAXIMUM of "up to" 3.0Mbps; which does NOT mean that it RUNS at 3.0Mbps, (MOST do NOT most of the time.) The speed YOU get, also depends on HOW MANY OTHER people are using the main "trunk" at the time. A streaming video uses a WHOLE LOT of bandwidth, which slows down everything else on the same network because it sets to 1st priority so as NOT to slow down the video itself.
