What is a good advertising program for a website?

Website idea with no idea how to follow through?

  • I'm a tech savvy 19 year old community college student and I have an idea for a social network/review site that could really benefit a large group of people. Suffice it to say, there are at least 3-8 people (or more) at every college in the country that could benefit from this idea and more likely than not, they would be willing to pay quite a bit for this service as well as companies who would be extremely interested in advertising. No website like the one I'm planning exists yet. The website would be a pretty big one, however, and I know next to nothing about programming. As a student, I also don't have too much money to pay someone to design it for me. Basically what I would need is a home page, a way for individuals to sign up and have user pages, a way for members to submit reviews to the website, a admin only blog function, a user submitted image gallery, a forum, and a couple of other pages that are purely informational. I know this is a HUGE amount of work, I'm not deluding myself, but what do you think my next step should be? Should I start learning how to code so that I can program this myself? Should I contact friends who know something about programming and brainstorm? Should I save my money and look at this as a legitimate business venture and potentially try for loans? Should I try using wordpress or a similar "build your own" site? Any info you could provide would be great.

  • Answer:

Building a legitimate, functioning, interactive social media site requires EXTENSIVE programming and constant maintenance coding wise. Not to sound like a dick but asking this question then mentioning that you have zero coding knowledge and might 'try wordpress' tells me that you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about and your 'idea' is most likely laughable. If it is legit, take it to a vc or established company, have them sign all the appropriate attorney prepared NDA agreements and hope to sell your idea. You clearly aren't a Harvard educated programmer... This ain't The Social Network bro.

Go to godaddy.com and see if there is a web application "ie zumba or wp " that can do most of the programing for you try to take the idea as far as possible then get someone to partener with you who can program if the idea is proffitable then you only need to be able sell it to someone with the programing experence needed. I would find one maybe two people to help me if it takes off you do not want to share ownership with 20 people.
