I need to make an art portfolio?
-
Okay so I messed up big time when I was 16 chose all the wrong subjects at college (COLLEGE NOT UNIVERSITY I LIVE IN ENGLAND) I'll be 19 in September going back for a two year course provided I get back in based on my portfolio. I hate a lot of problems in school and some girl completely obliterated my art coursework earning me a D, then people bullied me so badly I didn't go for over 50% of the time and got an E at AS I had to leave but I've had a good year out and I can draw and do art well especially with biro pens drawing portraits straight to paper with ink rather than pencil. I can draw quickly as well, I want to be an artist so I need some more qualifications before anywhere will look at me. I am 18. I have some idea of what to go into my portfolio and used to have one but I scrapped it to start a fresh so far totalling two pieces one a chalk monkey and the other a portrait of Alan Rickman. What else should I put in? I want to do some tattoo designs as I am massively into them especially roses but need more ideas? Oh and please don't say manga as a lot of places will take one look at it and drop a place claiming it isn't real art work because they don't understand it.

Answer:
well it depends on what you want your portfolio for... if possible have an artist give you some tips, or better take some art classes. there is a lot of competition in art,so many talented people so it would be good to get some formal training to start you off. Even attending an artist workshop or taking a trip to the museum and looking at artwork can help you with ideas. if you're showing a prospective school your portfolio they ask for observational drawings, digital art, paintings, 3d work etc. They like to see variety, and use of different mediums like charcoal and pencils, paint, mixed mediums etc. If it's for a job you would want to show them pieces more related to that particular field in art.for example if you're going into graphic design your portfolio should include strong graphic design pieces and some strong drawings to show you can also draw, which is a plus.
