Can you have arthroscopic knee surgery more than once on the same knee?

How long does it take to heal up from an arthroscopic knee surgery?

  • had it done 3 wks ago and im still sore, also, is pt a requirement? i always seem to feel a lot worse after pt and not sure its good for me cause my bone density might not be good and i think i end up making things worse during pt, can someone turn down pt or is it required for someone to have it after surgery, i do a lot better once im done with pt, it seems like it slows down my healing when i get hurt, i always thought you had to do pt, i only have it for a month, i had a dexa scan done last wk to find out my bone density cause my joints are always cracking and ive had two hip surgeries last summer and my recent knee surgery 3 wks ago. i had a knee cap out of place, any suggestions to prevent further surgeries, i cant even drink milk cause of an allergy to it and even supplements have milk in them. any suggestions on how to keep this from happening again? i mean all the surgeries, ive already lost my job because of them

  • Answer:

My sister has had both knees replaced and PT was essential to healing. But you should let them know about how you feel afterwards and ask if it is normal. I assume you mention milk for the benefit of calcium to strengthen your bones, however dairy is not the only source of calcium. Besides supplements you can eat greens, broccoli, brazil nuts to name a few. Also weight training will help strengthen your bones as well. I'm also sorry about your job. Just doesn't seem right.

Hi Pearl, everyone I know that has had it says about 2 wks & they are getting around pretty good. The PT is essential...they should taylor it to your needs and abilities. I have prayed for you just as I have many times in the past. I am facing this soon. (((((Pearl))))) God bless you

It depends, how the person heal up.

My doctor had me doing leg lifts five days after surgery and I was walking normal in about a week or two. But as far as how long it'll take for you; that's something to ask your doc; no telling how it's healing up. One thing though you might be aware of is "Prolotherapy"; also called "Ligament Sclerothopy". Knee surgeries never heal completely because there's not much blood that gets to the area where the ligaments connect to the bone. I had knee problems after surgery years later and the Prolotherapy made a huge difference. Prolotherapy is a series of injections that the doctor performs right at where there are tender areas that he will ask, "does this hurt". Those injections inflame that ligament - bone area and stimulate the body to heal those particular areas. Comparatively very inexpensive. I also have two friends that had it done with great results. "Prolotherapy" is on the web.
