First Sports Bike to buy?
-
I have recently passed my bike test although have been riding a Honda CBF125 for two years. I have recently bought a bandit 600 which for novice riders are meant to be a great first big bike but personally I don’t like it is heavy and bulky. I had a loan of a 2005 R6 last week which I did about 50 miles on which I loved it was light and handled really nice. I have had bikes many years ago although never did my test as at the time as the law allowed me to ride bikes of any size on my full licence with L plates. I am now 43. What would you suggest as first sports bike as I read a lot of different articles one saying buy a 250 next one saying buy a 600 as after a few months a 250 will bore you. I am at an age that I don’t want to race everywhere just enjoy the bike on a nice day, but also want a nice bike. I did find that the R6 had a lot more power than probably I would ever use and that didn’t bother me as enjoyed getting use to how the bike handled and I personally think it flatters riders into thinking they are better than they are as corners which I was taking about 35 mph could of been taken alot quicker. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unfortunately there is no straight answer as it's all about your preference. I taught myself on a 200 for about 6 months and now i'm riding a 750... One thing to keep in mind is that if you are driving the speed limit-ish most of the time a smaller bike may be boring in terms of power, but it will be more engaging in that you will be shifting more frequently. And i totally agree on the size btw- i love my 750, but a 550lb wet weight is pretty impractical

THEY say if you will get bored with the 250 after a few months ... then THEY are not riding it properly.. & if they cant ride the 250 properly what makes them think a 600 would be better at an age that I don’t want to race everywhere just enjoy the bike on a nice day so the 100MPH Ninja 250 would be ideal... R6 had a lot more power than probably I would ever use .... has more go than 99% of riders ever use... corners which I was taking about 35 mph could of been taken alot quicker. yes the corners can be taken quicker... & in actual fact 250cc bikes can carry more corner speed than 600cc bikes... less weight & good tires.. & the same size tire contact patch.. not rocket science to work out..
