Answer:
It depends greatly on what training you doing currently, as well as other factors such as weight and age etc. To improve over 10km you need to build up and develop to where you running a session at 10k pace and doing a longish run which allows you to run 10k comfortably and then a session where you run faster than 10k pace occasionally. This all takes developing with the correct approach. Getting the balance of when you do these runs is important as you need to develop and avoid illness and injuries. Look at the balance of these 10km Training Programs http://www.time-to-run.com/training/10k unfortunately the programs start at sub 50 minutes http://www.time-to-run.com/training/10k/sub50.htm however the program should give you an idea on how to formulate your training and instead of 50 minutes look to do sub 55 minutes. BUT .. keep in mind you need to be at a level of being able to cope with the training routine, you need to have a background of some training Good luck

Really depends on how long you've been training, etc. An hour for a 10k isn't a hyper competitive time. There should normally be room for improvement, and you should be able to shave off that extra 5 minutes. But if you've been training for years and years, you've maybe already maxed out. If you just started a couple months ago, you probably have safe room for improvement and can get there in a couple months. If you're an 80-year-old grandmother, congratulations on your time and don't worry about it.

It took me a month. With due respect for your efforts, 10km in an hour is relatively a slow time. Just train as per normal. 5 mins is not a big stretch to cut. Try completing the distance in under 48 mins. Good luck.
