What to do about UCSD?
-
So i've recently been accepted to UCSD as undeclared for Fall 2012 and i live out of state. The total cost for me to actually go there is around 56,000 or near that range. Now, that is a TON of money. I really really want to go to UCSD and explore what i want to do and stuff but the money is just so much. I didn't even qualify for student aid which im really ticked off about, and Im scared that i won't be able to catch up on work and education, and i just don't think im ready for such a big change in my life. I dont know if the money will be worth it, since i have to take loans out. Should i just go to my state university (full-ride scholarship) for undergrad and save money and transfer later? IF i decide to go to med school, Ill probably end up with more loans and it will just add on and on. I don't know what to do, the city i live in is OOBER boring and i just want to get out of here but my financial problems are getting in the way :/ please help! Is UCSD worth it?

Answer:
Education should not be a competition for you. You want to meet your own standards, not other people's standards, otherwise the Asians will beat you almost every time (I'm dead serious with that comment). College is definitely a very uncertain time, but you have to have confidence in yourself and your ability to adapt and excel in a situation. I would look into seeing if UCSD will let you defer your admission for you to go to a state college for two years, because it's not easy to transfer to any school and transferring to a UC is even harder because that strategy is what a lot of California students use. An education is whatever you make of it. You can think of it in the respect of how much tuition money you paid, how much your room and board costs, how much your books costs, how much your meal plan cost, etc., or you can value it by what it gives you, either later in life in terms of allowing you to go to medical school or by the experiences you have and the people you meet that can't be valued in terms of money, but which can be priceless.

if you have financial problems, do what you have to do to minimize the cost. you can always go to UCSD for graduate school. and since you look like you are considering medical school, you should try to minimize costs for your undergraduate school
