Would I have to pay back the grant?

FAFSA- My EFC for college is 0, is the Fed Pell Grant the only awarded grant that I won't have to pay back?

  • I have filled out my FAFSA and submitted it, and I received a Federal Pell Grant, a Stafford Unsubsidized, and a Stafford Subsidized. Is the Pell Grant the only money as a result of FAFSA that I will not have to pay back? Will FAFSA happen to give more? Also, I am number 2/72, so I am motivated and show motivation, not sure if that has to do much other than just being a student who needs help and can't receive it from the parents. Kyle Busch- Want to know something funny their bud, before you criticize? I have a work study program, as well as another job, for $4,000 a year in the work study alone. I have been working my --- off for everything I have gotten, my parents are NOT supporting me through college, and I am asking a simple question. So before you act like a ---, don't be so critical of everyone. Thanks!

  • Answer:

The Pell Grant is the only one that you are automatically eligible for based on your EFC. There are others (for example the SEOG grant, the Teach Grant) that you must meet certain criteria for. Your financial aid office will let you know if you qualify. In addition to federal aid, many schools also use the EFC when determining eligibility for state and institutional grants and scholarships. (Institutional aid is money that the school awards you from its own resources.) Because of your low EFC, you may be high on the list for this type of aid, also. Your financial aid office will usually include whatever sources of aid you are eligible for in your financial aid package. If you have questions, give them a call.

Yes, as Nancy explains, the Pell grant is likely the only "free" financial aid you will qualify for. What does "I am number 2/72" mean?

There should be a program at your school called the Student Support Services (SSS), they are very helpful, they give out grant aid and tuition waiver, all you have to do is write an essay about your academic goals.
