How to prepare for government jobs?

Are you banned from government jobs if you have a criminal record?

  • Does anyone know for sure (preferably someone w/ government experience in getting a government job) know if a past criminal record will prevent you from getting a government job. Okay next year I will have MBA with accounting concentration. I have a few things in my past. Okay, in a nutshell, I had some checks written out about 16 years ago, I got caught up, in bad relationship, but I paid them in full, never was arrested, or convicted for them, thank goodness. Once I got a good job, I went back, paid them all, the DA said they would be dismissed. I got a job offer, (NAF government) job did background check, they came up, told them they were paid, got the job. Then unfortunately, about 8 years later, another incident, occurred, assault & battery conviction. I believe it was set up, but I had no wittness, could not prove my innocence. So, First offense, unsupervised probation, 2 weeks county. This is what got me confused and worried. I applied to a government bank job, initially, got the job, the check writing did not show up, but the conviction did. It was about 4 years after the conviction. Anyway, I also had an expungement from another dismissed charged. That did not show up either, about 3 years old at the time. I'm a bit confused. They did a FBI background check, after I was given the job, but denied me the job after the background check. I did not disclose, the arrest, or conviction, advised wrong advise.. Wrong! Does anyone know will these past things prevent me from getting a government job? Am I barred? There Not felonies, Should I even apply? Some government sites say, it shouldn't keep me from getting a clearance, then some people on websites say no way! Would appreciate advise in the right direction. They are all misdemeanors but would they bar my from government employment forever in!Thanks! Category), if someone witha criminal record can ever be hired?

all the records must be cleared by any means. Doesn't matter if u were put behind the baar or not, no record should be there in police diary. Otherwise govt. Job is not an option for u.

Certain government jobs will disqualify you for past criminal activity. The best thing is to go to the Police Department of the city that you were in , and ask for a copy of your record. Remember even if you paid off the checks, there is a separate criminal investigation that remains, unless you have you record expunged. I know because I bounced and paid a $15 check that kept me out of many jobs, i wasn't able to get clearance, and nobody told me the reason. I found out over 20 years later.
