Can I get out of my AIR FORCE contract?
-
Here's the deal: I was told at MEPS to choose 8 jobs which I did, but before I did, I told a worker/Sergeant/recruiter that I didn't know any of the jobs I was choosing and he told me that it didn't matter because they weren't going to use that job sheet. So I chose my 8 jobs [without me knowing what the heck they were] and 2 weeks later my recruiter called me and told me the jobs I was qualified for. I had another job sheet to fill out and I turned in 5 jobs that I really wanted. My recruiter called me yesterday and told me I had a job available for me. So I went to his office and I found out it was a job I didn't even want and didn't know about. It was one of the jobs I put down at MEPS but I was told that that didn't count. He then told me I had to choose it because the Air Force offered it to me and if I don't accept it, it's an automatic refusal and I won't be able to get in the Air Force and other military branches. I had no other choice but to sign the contract because I do want to join the Air Force. Can I still get out my contract? I don't want the job, I just chose it because I was told at MEPS to choose 8 jobs without me looking at the description of every job. I was also told that it wasn't going to count against me but now it is!! HELP!!

Answer:
You are under no obligation to continue in your present contract, unless and until you make your second (ship-out) trip to MEPS and swear in for the second time. If your Recruiter is telling you anything else, he is lying to you. If you choose to separate from the Air Force DEP, you may find that the USAF will no longer accept you, but you will be fully able to join another Branch. Were I you, I'd tell the fly-boy where to go and look at either the Army or Navy, as they actually guarantee jobs, not make empty promises.

1. You can back out anytime before you ship to BMT. 2. It doesn't stop you from enlisting in a different branch of service!
