Things to do in Toulouse?

Are the French angry that the Toulouse attacker was killed?

  • Instead of due process and enlightened European justice (as Norway provided Anders Breivik, for ex.), Sarkozy has the Toulouse attacker executed during the raid on his flat. Very American-vigilante-style (and the French hate all things American...). Are the French upset about this disrespect to the rule of law and core principles of modern society?

  • Answer:

I would think that they are pretty ecstatic

I'd say this looks like trolling! There is a difference between "executing" someone, and killing someone when they try to arrest him. This serial killer was armed and dangerous, and he shot several of the officers as they were trying to arrest him! In no society can this be labeled as an "execution".

No I don't think the French are stupid, Merah was executing innocent French people he had to be stopped and was. End of story

"Very American-vigilante-style (and the French hate all things American...)." Killing a suspect which violently resists isn't American, and the French don't hate all things American, far from it. You apparently ignore the fact that the police did everything possible to capture him alive, but the man had planned to die fighting with the policemen and they were forced to kill him. But sure, the French would have preferred him to rot in prison for the rest of his life than being killed the way he wanted to.

I believe the French did everything they could to capture him alive (I'd remind you that the Norwegian mass killer was only seconds from getting a bullet in is brain too), and he made the choice from them when he acted violently and unpredictable in front of armed police. What bothers me about this case, is that Sarkozy is now going to use this incident to justify laws punishing "repeated visits to web-pages promoting hatred and violence". Looks like the world is on its way to a new dark age...
